MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–Tonight a town hall meeting is planned to discuss the future of Santee Cooper.

The event will take place at Berkeley High School at 6 p.m. State Senator Larry Grooms will be in attendance.

“At Monday’s Town Hall meeting, I plan to offer some thoughts about what has happened and where things might go from here. I will be joined by other speakers and there will be the opportunity for questions and answers, stated Grooms.

With the support of Berkeley Electric Cooperative and the other Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, the Senate Finance Committee on March 27th passed a resolution to sell Santee Cooper.

Santee Cooper’s shaky and uncertain future stems from its involvement with the failed nuclear plants at the V.C. Summer plant which left $8 billion of debt hanging over customers.

The company’s partner in the project, South Carolina Electric & Gas, has already been sold.
