UPDATE: As of 7 p.m., power has been restored to nearly all customers. One power outage is still being reported at this time.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–For the second day in a row, Berkeley Electric Cooperative has reported power outages throughout the Lowcountry.

Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, BEC announced another outage at its Strawberry substation.

As of 6 p.m., more than 4,700 customers are currently without power in Berkeley County. Only one outage has been reported in Charleston County.

“We realize this is frustrating and crews are already in route to assess the situation,” read a social media post by the power company. “Please realize that this is an extremely unusual situation and we are doing everything that we can to resolve it.”

Currently, crews are finishing up rerouting power and all members should be restored shortly, according to BEC.

Just before 4 p.m. on Friday, approximately 4,000 customers were without power for several hours after the Strawberry substation transformer failed.

Power was finally restored around 7 p.m.
