BCSD Schools, Offices Close as Threat of Hurricane Dorian Nears

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – As a result of Governor Henry McMaster’s evacuation order issued during the press conference Sunday evening, all Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools and offices will close Tuesday, September 3, 2019, to allow students, staff, and their families time to prepare for the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian, BCSD officials stated.

During certain weather emergencies such as potential impacts of hurricanes, schools are closed to prepare to open and serve as DHEC and Red Cross shelters for our community.

Schools and offices will remain closed, per the Governor’s order, until further notice.

Essential personnel including maintenance and facilities, technology, school administrators, Superintendent’s cabinet and their designated support staff, school custodians and cafeteria managers are asked to report to work Monday morning at their regular time to prepare schools for the impending weather and will be released by 11 a.m.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your direct supervisor,” BCSD officials stated in a news release.

All after school activities and sporting events to take place on Tuesday, September 3, and throughout the week are canceled until further notice and information concerning rescheduling will be released when it becomes available.

Additionally, all after school daycare programs will also be canceled beginning Tuesday, September 3, and will continue to be canceled until further notice.

District officials say they are working closely with Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Center to monitor the hurricane and potential impact on the county, and are also receiving regular updates from the National Weather Service.

Officials say they will continue to closely monitor this weather event and will communicate with parents, staff, and the community as frequently as possible about any changes or additional closures.
