Moncks Corner’s First African American Female Councilmember Passes Away

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Dr. Tonia Aiken-Taylor, a long-time member of Moncks Corner Town Council, passed away Thursday while surrounded by family.

She was 55-years-old.

“Tonia’s beautiful smile and sincere spirit will always be in my heart.  I’m saddened to know that my friend is no longer here but I know she is smiling with her heavenly father,” stated a friend, Terry Bryan Stinson.

“Leader, Teacher, Preacher.  Wonderful and beautiful human being outside and inside.  We will miss you much.  Thank you for doing God’s will in such a short period here on earth,” stated Maurice White.

Dr. Aiken-Taylor served as co-pastor of Heart to Heart International Ministries in Moncks Corner where her husband is the senior pastor.

In 2010, she was elected as the first African American female to Moncks Corner Town Council. Her term in office was scheduled to expire in December 2021.

She leaves behind her husband and three daughters.

Visitation is planned to be held on Thursday, September 5, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Heart to Heart Ministries located at 106 Behrman Street in Moncks Corner.
