GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Less than two months after Bi-Lo vacated its Goose Creek location on St. James Avenue, a new grocery store is expected to move into the building in the very near future.

A spokesperson has confirmed that Food Lion will move into Bi-Lo’s former building which was previously located at 142 East St. James Avenue in Goose Creek.

“We plan to open that store later this year to offer a new, easier shopping experience to customers there,” stated Emma A. Inman, a Food Lion spokesperson.

Inman added that Food Lion has no plans to open any other additional locations throughout the Lowcountry.

“But we do continually assess our store portfolio to ensure that it is meeting our business needs,” she added.

Food Lion currently has two locations in Goose Creek – one in Crowfield Plaza and the other on Redbank Road.

Based in Salisbury, N.C., the large grocery chain operates more than 1,000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. The company employs more than 63,000 associates and serves approximately 10 million customers a week.

BI-Lo’s parent company, Southeastern Grocers, closed the Goose Creek location in mid-August due reportedly to the store’s in ability to perform well.

The decision to close the store came less than a year after Bi-Lo had completely remodeled the Goose Creek and Sangaree location.

Earlier this year, SE Grocers announced the closure of 22 other ‘underperforming’ stores nationwide, including the Bi-Lo in Mount Pleasant.

Bi-Lo still has several nearby stores open within a fifteen-minute drive from the old Goose Creek location. Those locations include Sangaree, Moncks Corner and Hanahan.
