86-Year-Old Man Killed In Crash Near Volvo Identified

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – An elderly man has died following a fatal collision in Ridgeville on Wednesday.

According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, 86-year-old Henry Blanton died after his SUV collided with a dump truck.

The accident happened shortly after 12 p.m. on State Rd. near Volvo Car Dr.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Blanton was driving a 2017 Ford Escape traveling westbound as a nearby dump truck headed eastbound.

Troopers said that as Blanton tried to make a left hand turn onto Volvo Car Drive, he was struck by the dump truck, which then ran off the road and overturned.

Blanton was pronounced dead at the scene, Coroner George Oliver said.

The Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate.
