MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Celebrate the arrival of spring a few days early at the 21st annual Shuckin’ in the Park Oyster Roast at Old Santee Canal Park. Gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, and oysters will be served from 1 to 6 p.m.

Admission tickets to the oyster roast are $5 and can be purchased at the park’s gatehouse or inside the Interpretive Center during regular park hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children 12 and under are admitted free and will be able to enjoy many fun activities, including a jump castle and a slide.

Returning to perform their family-friendly live music are the hometown favorites, Customs 4 and Friends. This band has been entertaining the Greater Charleston region with a variety of beach, oldies and pop favorites for more than 60 years.

Oyster tickets will be available for $10 on the day of the event. Each ticket is good for a one gallon-sized bucket of oysters. Local charities will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken bog and the event’s famous “Shuckin’ fish stew.”

The historic park features boardwalks and canoe rentals to explore Biggin Creek. At the Interpretive Center you can learn about America’s first true canal, the Santee Canal, constructed from 1793 to 1800.

As it has been for the last 11 years, 100% of Shuckin’ in the Park’s electricity needs will be powered by renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper. Santee Cooper generates Green Power from clean, renewable energy sources including landfill methane gas, solar power and wind power right here in South Carolina. Green Power is Green-e Energy certified and meets the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Learn more at www.green-e.org.

Small coolers are allowed, but visitors are asked to keep their pets and golf carts at home. This is a special event so admission with an annual park pass does not apply. For more information, call the park at 843-899-5200 or visit www.oldsanteecanalpark.org.
