MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Fire damaged a popular downtown Moncks Corner restaurant Friday night.
Shortly after 7 p.m., as a few employees were closing Music Man’s BBQ, a fire started in the back kitchen area, Mayor Michael Lockliear said. The workers inside the restaurant were able to safely escape and call 911.
Firefighters showed up within minutes to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, the fire was confined to the restaurant and did not spread to nearby adjoining businesses, Lockliear added.
Lockliear said the bulk of the fire damage was kept within the kitchen area. The lobby area did sustain smoke damage as well, he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours.
Music Man’s BBQ, which is at 112 E.Railroad Ave., has been a staple in the Moncks Corner area for about 20 years. It specializes in buffet-style southern barbeque.
A few hours after the fire started, a GoFundMe account was launched to help the restaurant owners recover from their losses. However, the creator of the fundraising account paused it Saturday.
