UPDATE: Coroner Identifies Pedestrian Killed Along St. James Avenue

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian killed Tuesday night along St. James Avenue in Goose Creek.

George McKinney, 51, of Goose Creek, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway at the intersection of Westview Boulevard and St James Avenue, Coroner George Oliver said.

Police closed a portion of the highway in both directions near Button Hall Avenue as they investigated the fatality.

According to police, at approximately 6:54 p.m., officers responded to the area of Highway 176 and Westview Boulevard in response to a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a 2002 Toyota 4Runner, traveling eastbound on Highway 176, had struck McKinney in the number one lane. McKinney was declared deceased at the scene.
