MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Berkeley High School leadership announced Wednesday the return of Dr. Jerry Brown to the Stags football team. Brown was selected after multiple rounds of interviews with highly qualified candidates, according to school officials.

Coach Brown has invested 34 years as an educator and head football coach in South Carolina with an overall record of 291 wins, 131 losses and five state championships. He has coached more than 70 Division I football players, and eight of those players continued their play in the NFL.

He’s been selected as the head coach and assistant coach at the North South All Star Team, and as an assistant coach of the South Carolina Shrine Bowl Team. In 2021, Coach Brown will serve as the head coach of the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team.

“We are very fortunate to have Coach Brown return to Berkeley High where he set the standard of excellence that fans associate with our program,” said Principal Steven Steele. “Our players are eager to begin work with him to prepare for the season.”

This is Coach Brown’s second tenure as head coach of the Stags with a record of 175 wins and 63 loses with three states titles while at BHS. Coach Brown will be taking over a Stags team that went 4-4 in the 2020 COVID-19 season with returns coming back on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

“The community is my home,” Coach Brown said. “I am looking forward to returning to the sidelines and leading Stag football.”

Coach Brown began his new role on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
