MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Branch Properties, an Atlanta-based real estate investment firm specializing in the acquisition and development of grocery-anchored shopping centers, announced Wednesday the acquisition of 9.13 acres of land in Moncks Corner.

The site will soon be home to a new Publix-anchored shopping center called Moncks Corner Marketplace. The 75,267-square-foot shopping center is slated for completion in June 2022, with Publix expected to open in fall 2022.

Located on the corner of U.S. Highway 52 and Cypress Gardens Road, Moncks Corner Marketplace will be approximately 30-40 minutes from downtown Charleston, in one of the fastest growing residential areas north of the city. Publix will anchor the center with a 48,387-square-foot lease and will be accompanied by an additional 26,880 square feet of retail and restaurant tenants.

“We have seen tremendous growth in Moncks Corner over the past several years and are constantly in need for more accessible shopping and dining offerings for our residents,” said Moncks Corner Mayor Michael Lockliear. “The new Moncks Corner Marketplace will certainly be a welcomed addition to the community, and we are looking forward to a successful ongoing partnership with Branch Properties throughout the development process.”

Moncks Corner is a rapidly growing suburb of Charleston, which has recently expanded to accommodate the explosion of people moving South or out of Charleston proper. The population of Moncks Corner has grown by 25 percent in the past five years, and it remains the fourth fastest-growing town in the state of South Carolina.

Branch has previously developed and owned several projects in the Palmetto State, including the first Publix-anchored center to be located in the Charleston market.

“This development is a continuation of our firm’s dedication to identifying well-located sites for Publix that serve the local community,” said Branch Chief Investment Officer Jesse Shannon. “As Moncks Corner continues to attract new residents, we believe that Moncks Corner Marketplace will become the dominant grocery, shopping and dining amenity for the town.”
