BCSO: Man Blames Reckless Driving On Need To Use Restroom, Charged With Drug Trafficking

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A Charlotte man is behind bars after Berkeley County deputies said they found him in possession of a large quantity of drugs following a traffic stop Wednesday night.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling the Sangaree area when he observed a Cadillac driving in two lanes of traffic.

The driver, later identified as Michael Separ, was driving his vehicle directly over the white lanes on the road that separates different lanes, deputies said.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with Separ. Separ claimed he really needed to use the restroom and that was the reason he was failing to maintain his lane, the sheriff’s office said.

Separ reportedly told the deputy he drove down from Charlotte to visit his girlfriend. During the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said the deputy became suspicious that Separ was involved in some sort of illegal activity and requested the assistance of K-9.

After arriving on scene, a K-9 ultimately alerted his handler. A probable cause search of Separ and the vehicle was conducted and resulted in the following:

  • a clear, plastic baggy containing approximately 2.8 gross grams of a white powder-like substance
  • a clear, plastic baggy containing approximately 10.3 gross grams of a crystal-like substance
  • a clear, plastic baggy containing approximately 8 gross grams of a green, plant-like material
  • an orange pill bottle containing 19 and a half different schedule pills
  • a black in color .45 caliber American Tactical M1911

Separ was placed under arrest and transported to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center to face charges of trafficking meth, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of schedule I-IV narcotics and unlawful carry of a pistol, deputies said.
