Moncks Corner PD: Third Person Accused Of Using Facebook To Lure Victim Charged With Attempted Murder

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Moncks Corner Police Department announced Thursday the arrest of a third person in connection with an attempted murder that occurred on Merrimack Boulevard on Jan. 1, 2021.

Police said Elijah Munger, 22, was arrested in Indiana on Tuesday for his role in the crime. Melissa Marie Mosley, 40, and Jerrod Lee Smith, 25, were taken in custody on Jan. 22 in this case.

Officers said they originally responded to Merrimack Boulevard after a report of a victim being shot at while he was in his vehicle after being lured to the area through Facebook messenger to meet with an individual. Police said when he arrived, a person approached his vehicle with a handgun and shot into his vehicle as he fled the area.

Berkeley County deputies responded on Jan. 2 to a similar case where officials said the victim was shot and subsequently died from his injures.

Detectives from the Moncks Corner Police Department and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office worked in collaboration on both investigations and were able to identify that Munger, Smalls and Mosley were involved in the Merrimack Boulevard shooting. The investigation is still on going, police said.

Munger, Smith and Mosley have been charged with one count each of attempted murder In the Moncks Corner incident. Munger was taken into custody with the assistance from the SLED Fugitive Unit and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office in Peru, Indiana.

Munger is currently being details in Indiana awaiting extradition to South Carolina.
