SLED: Former Moncks Corner Cop Accused Of Dismissing Traffic Ticket For Payment Arrested

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested Thursday a former officer with the Moncks Corner Police Department accused accepting money to dismiss a ticket from a lawful traffic stop.

Randall O. Scott, 53, has been charged with misconduct in office, according to SLED.

The request for the SLED investigation was made by the Moncks Corner Police Department.

On Nov. 25, 2020, Scott conducted a lawful traffic stop and gave the driver a ticket for speeding. He was fined in the amount of $76.88, according to an affidavit.

Several days later, SLED said that the driver contacted Scott and asked for assistance with the citation. Scott met with the driver and accepted approximately $77 in cash from the driver. In return for payment, Scott agreed to dismiss the ticket.

On April 22, 2021, the driver attended Moncks Corner traffic court, and court records had no account of the driver paying the $76.88 fine or of Scott dismissing the ticket, according to SLED.

On May 6, 2021, SLED said that Scott provided a post-Miranda statement to agents admitting to accepting payment from the driver in return for dismissing the traffic citation. Scott kept the money and made no attempt to pay the driver’s fine or dismiss the driver’s traffic citation with the court.

Scott was booked at the Berkeley County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
