BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Pinopolis Navigational Lock on Lake Moultrie at Jefferies Hydroelectric Station will be out of service beginning 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, through noon on Thursday, Aug. 26, for planned maintenance.

The Lock system will resume normal operations at the conclusion of the maintenance.

As a reminder, only motor-powered boats are allowed in the lock. Boats or watercraft must be at least 10 feet in length and no longer than 150 feet. Motorized personal watercraft, such as Jet Skis, must be tied to boats during the lock operation.

According to Santee Cooper, the Pinopolis Lock at Santee Cooper’s Jefferies Hydroelectric Station was the highest single-lift lock in the world at the time of its construction in the early 1940s.
