Arrest Made in 17-Year-Old Berkeley County Cold Case

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced Tuesday the arrest of a man in connection with a homicide that occurred in 2004.

Xavier D. Williams, 41, has been arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being housed at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

On the morning of Nov. 1, 2004, deputies responded to the Diplomat Club in the Ladson area of Berkeley County in reference to a shooting. Responding deputies located the victim, Fred L. Greene Jr., 28, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office.

New information developed by investigators positively identified a suspect and implicated him as the person responsible for the shooting death of Greene.

On Monday, Sept. 27, Williams was apprehended without incident by members of the U.S. Marshals Service – Carolina Fugitive Task Force in Charleston.
