MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Town of Moncks Corner celebrated the groundbreaking of its future baseball designed specifically for children and adults with disabilities.

According to the town, more than 30,000 people with disability call Berkeley County home. This includes 3,000 children and 12,000 senior citizens.

The town has partnered with the Miracle League, an organization that helps those with disabilities play baseball, to bring the all-inclusive field, known as the Home Telecom Miracle League Baseball Field, to the Regional Recreation Complex in downtown Moncks Corner.

The new baseball field comes with a $1.5 million price tag, Live 5 News reported. Much of the funds, however, have come from generous donors like the Berkeley County School District, Berkeley Electric Co-Op, Freedom Church, and clubs like the Lions, Kiwanis, and Rotary, town officials said.

According to Becky Ellison, Recreation Director for the Town of Moncks Corner, a $250,000 donation led to the town naming the future ballfield after its largest private donor, Home Telecom.

“Home Telecom has always been willing to step in, no matter what the need is. Not only do they support us financially, but they will also coach a team, or be involved with setting up a booth or volunteer. It is a total commitment,” Ellison said in November.

The field is expected to be ready for use sometime around October or November, officials said.
