Berkeley Electric Warns Sangaree Residents Of ‘Budget Program Scam’

123RF/Wavebreak Media Ltd.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Berkeley Electric said it’s received reports from the Sangaree area that people are going door-to-door telling members that the power company plans to increase rates soon.

They are trying to sign members up for some type of budget billing program, Berkeley Electric said.

However, the power company is warning residents to don’t be fooled.

“These individuals are NOT associated with the co-op nor is the program,” Berkeley Electric posted to Facebook. “Their claims of a planned rate increase are also false.”

Berkeley Electric said it does have contractors working on its system, but they are conducting maintenance only and will not approach members about signing up for programs.
