BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on a road in Berkeley County.
According to Trooper Nick Pye, shortly after 9 p.m., the driver of a 1997 Chevy pickup was traveling south on Sheep Island Road near Starline Drive on Tuesday. At some point, the driver ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and then a tree.
No other drivers were involved.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash or what factors may have contributed to it.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s office will release the driver’s name pending notification of next of kin.
