BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that it will be returning to a rebranded version of “Live PD” two years after the show was canceled on A&E.
This time, however, the revived show will go by a different name, “On Patrol: Live” and will appear on the cable network, Reelz. Dan Abrams will continue to serve as host, the network confirmed this week.
“WE HAVE HUGE NEWS!!! Currently, we are in the final stages of production details….BUT this summer we will be featured on REELZ filming On Patrol: Live!,” the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook.
The sheriff’s office had been a part of the original show since season four, making its debut on Nov. 15, 2019.

“Live PD” initially premiered in 2016 and quickly became one of the biggest hits on A&E — and all of cable television — regularly drawing more than two million viewers to its broadcasts on Friday and Saturday nights.
Despite its high ratings and resonating with audiences, “Live PD” was canceled in June 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Its cancellation also followed Paramount giving the boot to the long-running “Cops.”
The cancellation of these shows came amid a growing anti-police sentiment that catapulted the “defund/abolish the police movement” across the nation. Some critics argued that networks and even major companies ultimately caved to the pressure of anti-police groups and politicians to appear “woke.”
“This show provided an opportunity for civilians to have a look into the daily operations of patrol deputies and some specialized units. We were able to provide our residents with transparency, which our department values greatly. The entertainment aspect of the show was just a bonus,” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said following the show’s cancellation in 2020.
Abrams, the show’s host, has been advocating for its return to cable TV for the last two years, telling The Hollywood Reporter it was just a question of finding the right partner.
“I do think the environment has changed [since ‘Live PD’ was canceled], but I don’t think that should have determined whether ‘Live PD,’ or a show like it, what is now being called ‘On Patrol: Live,‘ should be on the air,” Abrams told the magazine. “I think the more we talk about policing, the more we should want to watch police officers doing what they do.”
“On Patrol: Live” will debut on Reelz sometime this summer on Friday and Saturday nights.
