St. Stephen Man Accused Of Fatally Shooting Bonneau Woman Arrested: Sheriff

BONNEAU, S.C. – A St. Stephen man is facing charges in connection with a Bonneau woman’s homicide, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Jawon Qountil Lampkin, 36, of St. Stephen has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

On July 6, detectives said they responded to the 100 block of DeWitt Road in Bonneau in reference to a death.

Upon arrival, detectives said they located a woman deceased inside the residence.

Based on the initial investigation, detectives said the victim’s death appeared to be suspicious.

While investigating further, Detectives received a number of calls from the community providing additional information and tips.

Detectives’ further investigation into the victim’s death led them to conduct follow-up interviews with witnesses.

During an interview with Lampkin, he was asked about an inconsistent statement made during the initial interview. Lampkin ultimately admitted to shooting the victim during an argument, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lampkin was denied bond on each charge. Lampkin has been arrested in the past for weapons possession, drug violations and resisting arrest, deputies said.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Amber A. Tipton, 28, of Bonneau.
