BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office along with the Berkeley County School District will host several active shooter educational presentations across the county. The public is invited to take part.
Organizers said the purpose of the presentations are to provide the public with the knowledge of what to do should they encounter an active shooter.
“Active shooter incidents are usually unpredictable and the way they occur can vary,” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. “We are aiming to increase and enhance our community’s preparedness through education. Our presentations will allow our community to prepare for any active shooter incident and potentially help first responders save lives.”
“As safety and security is our number one priority, we welcome and appreciate every opportunity to provide information and trainings to the public,” said BCSD Superintendent Deon Jackson. “Our partnership with law enforcement is invaluable, and these collaborative efforts strengthen our county to benefit our students, staff, families and communities.”
Citizens that partake in the presentations can expect to see material about identifying active shooters,
identifying common active shooter myths, discovering workplace violence indicators, reviewing and explaining survival options and much more.
There are currently four active shooter educational presentations scheduled throughout the county. The
presentations are open to the public and free of charge. The presentations will take place at the following
times and locations:
- Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Goose Creek High School at 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Cane Bay High School at 6 p.m.
- Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Berkeley High School at 6 p.m.
- Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Philip Simmons High School at 6 p.m
