BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C – Inland Berkeley County is currently under a hurricane watch, according to the National Weather Service.

A hurricane watch is issued when a tropical cyclone containing winds 74 mph or higher poses a possible threat, generally within 48 hours. The affected areas are Goose Creek, St. Stephen and Moncks Corner.

These winds may be accompanied by storm surge, coastal flooding, and/or river flooding.

The watch does not mean that hurricane conditions will occur. It only means that these conditions are possible, emergency officials stressed.

Ian is currently a Category 4 storm directed towards Florida. Impacts to Berkeley County have not changed; however, heavy rain and wind is expected for the area.
