MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250) has awarded the Berkeley County Museum a $50,000 site grant to help the museum better tell Berkeley County’s Revolutionary War stories.

The grant award allows the museum to acquire cutting-edge technology and updated exhibits to share the experiences and perspectives of the broad-based and varied citizenry living locally during the Revolutionary War period.

Berkeley County’s rich Revolutionary War history boasts the highest concentration of battles and skirmishes within a single county in South Carolina.

“On behalf of the Berkeley County Museum’s Board, we are thrilled to be awarded this support from SC250,” said the museum’s Board Chairman Shanda Phillips. The museum has seen a rise in the number of visitors since the opening of the Fort Fair Lawn exhibit last year. “There is also renewed local and tourist interest in Berkeley County’s role in the American Revolution because of efforts by the Berkeley 250 Committee.”

SC250 promotes and celebrates South Carolina’s American Revolutionary people, places, and events. SC250 Executive Director Molly Fortune congratulated the museum and noted the commission’s shared goal of telling a more inclusive Revolutionary Way story.
