BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A child drowned in a pond over the weekend in Berkeley County, the coroner’s office announced Monday.
Coroner Darnell Hartwell said his office was contacted Saturday at 12:44 p.m. for a child being found in a nearby pond.
The child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as a 4-year-old child from Bonneau.
The death is being investigated as an accidental drowning, the coroner said.
Berkeley County EMS, Berkeley County East Fire District, Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources responded to the incident.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office are investigating.
