Baby Dies In St. Stephen Car Crash: Coroner

ST. STEPHEN, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released more details about a fatal car crash that occurred in St. Stephen over the weekend.

Coroner Darnell Hartwell said the victim was a 7-month-old baby from Cross.

According to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 6:46 a.m. on State Hwy. 35 at Piston Court.

Glover said a 2002 Toyota Camry was travelling north on State Hwy. 35 when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road, striking a ditch and tree.

The driver was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Berkeley County EMS, Berkeley County East Fire District, the Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office responded to the crash.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
