Extreme Heat Prompts Cooling Center To Open In Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – In response to the extreme heat, a cooling center will open in Berkeley County starting Wednesday, July 19, according to Berkeley County officials. The center will be located at 133 Red Bank Road in Goose Creek.

Please see schedule below for when the center will be open:

  • 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19
  • 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 20
  • 1-5 p.m. on Friday, July 21

On Wednesday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., lunch will be provided by The Lord’s Ladle—the soup kitchen at Goose Creek United Methodist Church, located at 142 Red Bank Road. On Thursday, Project Love RDBNK will provide a sack lunch.

There will also be movies playing, games available, cold water and air conditioning at the cooling center, county officials said.

This initiative is a partnership among Project Love RDBNK, The Blessing Bag Project, Berkeley County Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD), and Berkeley County Emergency Management.
