4-Year-Old Child Injured During Accidental Shooting: Berkeley County Deputies

According to the Berkeley County School District, administrators and the school resource officer at Sangaree Middle School received information Wednesday that a student had a gun on campus.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that injured a 4-year-old child.

A preliminary investigation revealed the shooting appears to be accidental, Cpl. Carli Drayton said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred on Avanti Lane, which is off Old Hwy. 52 in Moncks Corner. Deputies received the call for service at 1:29 p.m.

The child was transported to a hospital for treatment, deputies said. The child’s condition and the circumstances that led up to the shooting are unknown at this time.
