Bonneau Woman Killed In Hwy. 17A Crash Identified

BONNEAU, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver killed in a crash with two tractor-trailers Tuesday morning.

According to Coroner Darnell Hartwell, the driver is Whitney Strong, 32, of Bonneau. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office, Berkeley County EMS, State Transport Police, Berkeley County Emergency Management, SCDOT, East Berkeley Fire Dept responded to the fatal collision.

Trooper Nick Pye with South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. on Hwy. 17A near Willow Haven Lane near Moncks Corner.

Prior to the fatal crash, Pye said a 2021 Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer were traveling south on Hwy. 17A as Strong traveled south in a 2012 Dodge sedan.

At some point, Pye said Strong collided with the driver of the Piterbilt tractor-trailer before then colliding with the Volvo tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer was uninjured, Pye said.

No other details as to the cause of the collision were provided.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
