Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Van Near Jedburg Road In Berkeley County Identified

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified a pedestrian killed on U.S. Hwy. 176 near Jedburg Road just before New Year’s Eve.

Coroner Darnell Hartwell said the victim is Maquis Abigael Ramos Ramos, 22, of North Charleston. 

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, on Dec. 30 around 9:25 p.m., Ramos and another pedestrian were traveling northbound on Hwy. 176 when the driver of a 2011 Ford van struck the pair.

Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian was transported to Trident Medical Center, Lance Cpl. Lena Butler said. Their condition is unknown.

The driver of the van along with a passenger were not injured, authorities said.

Berkeley County EMS, the Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office and Central Berkeley Fire & Rescue responded to the incident. 

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.
