MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Moncks Corner Water Works Commission issued a boil water advisory for several neighborhoods and apartment complexes following a service interruption caused by a contractor boring through a 10-inch main water line.

The advisory, announced Friday afternoon, applies to residents and businesses in the following areas: Shannonwood, St. Johns subdivision, Abbey Walk, Francis Villa Apartments, and Plantation Apartments, as well as all businesses located between these locations.

Water service was temporarily turned off to repair the damaged main. Once service is restored, crews will flush the lines and collect water samples to ensure drinking water is safe. Until the results of these tests come back negative for contamination, residents are strongly advised to boil their water for at least one full minute before using it for drinking or cooking.

“This is a precautionary advisory only; this does not mean our drinking water system is contaminated,” the commission emphasized in the notice. The advisory is being issued as a safety measure following the temporary loss of water during line repairs.

Water samples will be collected on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20, with final results expected by Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
