MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Moncks Corner is kicking off an 18-month effort to reshape how development is managed, and town leaders want local voices at the center of the conversation. The initiative marks the town’s vision of creating a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a comprehensive guidebook that will bring clarity and consistency to local development rules.

Why it matters

Currently, the town has several existing ordinances related to land development, however, they are not located in one cohesive document, according to Moncks Corner officials. The UDO process will combine these various regulations into one user-friendly ordinance.

What it will include

The UDO will consolidate and update several existing ordinances:

  1. Zoning ordinance
  2. Land development regulations
  3. Chapter 36, Article IV – Stormwater Management
  4. Chapter 16, Article III – Tree Protection
  5. Chapter 18 – Flood regulations

How to get involved

Public participation will play a major role in shaping the final document. Residents and business owners are encouraged to contribute through several engagement opportunities, including:

  • Completing an online survey
  • Posting thoughts to the interactive idea wall
  • Attending upcoming pop-up events and public workshops

  • Wednesday, June 4
  • 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Moncks Corner Train Depot
  • 100 Behrman St, Moncks Corner, SC 29461

According to town officials, the UDO will ultimately help guide growth and development that is consistent with the town’s vision.

“Let’s work together to ensure future development reflects the spirit of the Lowcountry’s hometown! We can’t wait to hear from you,” the town recently posted to Facebook.
