BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Santee Cooper plans to conduct an overnight repair on a major water line that serves residents in Goose Creek, Summerville, and parts of Berkeley County.
The damaged line—part of the Lake Moultrie Regional Water System—serves the City of Goose Creek, the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works, and portions of Berkeley County, supplying water to an estimated 200,000 people.

Santee Cooper officials say crews will begin the repair process around 6 p.m., with work expected to take at least six hours to complete. The process will involve dewatering the pipe, cutting out the damaged section, and installing a replacement.
Water agencies in Goose Creek, Summerville and Berkeley County have now issued boil water advisories, which are expected to remain in place for at least 24 hours after repairs are completed.
The break occurred near Moncks Corner and was initially stabilized with a temporary repair early Tuesday morning. Officials said the more extensive overnight repair was delayed to allow time for local water systems to refill elevated storage tanks—helping maintain service during the repair process.
“Santee Cooper decided to pause the repair process early this morning to allow the system time to refill storage tanks maintained by these water agencies,” said Mike Finissi, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer. “Those refilled tanks are now available to support the agencies’ customer needs tonight while we replace the affected section of pipe. We would continue to ask customers to conserve water when possible until this repair is complete.”
Officials continue to urge residents to conserve water as much as possible, noting that some customers may experience low water pressure during the repair.
Santee Cooper crews are being assisted by local utility teams from Goose Creek, Summerville and Berkeley County, along with Chandler Construction, as work continues to restore the major transmission line.
