BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust will officially celebrate the grand opening of Fort Fair Lawn on Sept. 24.

The event, which coincides with “Colonial Day,” will take place at Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

Tickets are $5. Admission for children age 6 and under is free.

The event will include guided fort tours, Revolutionary War artillery battery reenactors, candle making, indigo dying, colonial medicine, sweetgrass baskets, food trucks and much more.

The history of the fort dates back to more than 240 years ago. In April 1780, the British seized control of Fairย Lawnย Plantation, fortifying theย mansionย home, and constructing Fort Fairย Lawn.

Considered theย most significant British outpost between Charles Town andย Camden, the fortย protected the British troopย deploymentsย and communication lines through South Carolina.
