BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – California Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to return to South Carolina later this month, with a stop planned in Berkeley County.
According to the South Carolina Democratic Party, Newsom will speak in Berkeley County on Monday, Feb. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at a location that will be announced 24 hours before the event. He is then scheduled to travel to Clarendon County for a second appearance from noon to 1 p.m.

Both visits are part of a tour titled, “On the Road with Governor Newsom: Connecting Rural South Carolina.”
“We’re excited to hit the road again with Governor Gavin Newsom!” the SCDP posted to X. “This is an opportunity to engage directly, hear from Governor Newsom, and be part of the conversation.”
This will not be Newsom’s first trip to the Palmetto State. He visited several South Carolina counties last July during a two-day swing through the state.
Newsom is widely viewed as a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. In an interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning” last October, he said he plans to decide whether to run for president after this year’s midterm elections.
“Fate will determine that,” Newsom said when asked if he was moving closer to a national campaign.
News of the visit drew a quick response from the Berkeley County Republican Party on Saturday.
“Governor Gavin Newsom’s visit is notable given that many families moving to Berkeley County each year are doing so to escape the policies he represents,” Chairman John McGrath said in a statement. “The contrast is clear. People are not leaving South Carolina for California. They are leaving California for places like Berkeley County.”

South Carolina is currently slated to host the first Democratic presidential primary in 2028, though the early-state lineup could still change.
