Berkeley Co. renews commitment to support regional stormwater education effort

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Supervisor Dan Davis signed a resolution to continue the support or regional stormwater education effort by the Ashley Cooper Stormwater Education Consortium. Thirteen county and municipal government representatives attended the signing ceremony at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.

“Education is the key to what we do for managing stormwater,” said Davis. “People need to know what stormwater is all about. We thank all our colleagues for the support of this Consortium.”

Berkeley County has been a part of this commitment since the regional education strategy was first adopted in 2008. The Ashley Cooper Consortium has partnered with Clemson University’s Carolina Clear, which collaborates with universities, state agencies, and nonprofits.

The Consortium’s goal is to educate the general public on how to keep water in South Carolina’s streams, rivers, and beaches as clean as possible. This initiative has now become a national model on community-university collaboration to protect water quality.
