MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—After a week-long trial, a jury found Shana Ceceil Robinson, 36, of Moncks Corner guilty of felony DUI.
The jury deliberated for a little over two hours before reaching their decision Friday.
Investigators say Robinson was behind the wheel when she collided with and killed 47-year-old Candy Sue Zoll on November 10, 2011. The wreck happened on Broughton Road in Moncks Corner. Robinson’s passenger, Brittany Hartley, 23, was also injured in the crash.
According to witness testimony, Robinson’s BAC was .09% four hours after the wreck and after receiving six liters of fluid. An expert witness testified that Robinson’s BAC would have been .15 had it been taken at the time of the crash.
“Nobody wins in a DUI crash. We at MADD are here to support the victims of this 100% preventable crime, educate the public about the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, and to advocate for better laws. Today’s ruling shows that Berkeley County’s citizens want safer roads,” said Kelly DeHay, a MADD representative in Moncks Corner who attended the trial.
A judge ultimately sentenced Robinson to 17 years in prison.
