Family fishing clinics seeking volunteer instructors

The Family Fishing Clinics (FFCs) are designed to introduce the basics of freshwater fishing to the young and old.

Are you an experienced angler? The SC Department of Natural Resources Aquatic Education Section is currently looking for experienced anglers interested in volunteering for a new family fishing instruction program.

The Family Fishing Clinics want to familiarize new fishers to the basics of freshwater fishing with lessons on tying fishing knots, rigging rods, casting, fishing, and more.

In order to accomplish this, the SCDNR Aquatic Education Section needs a trained set of skilled volunteers. They want participants of each class to become confident anglers and become aware of how and where to fish.

If you’re interested, you must attend a volunteer training session as well as undergo a SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) background and driving record check.

After certification, you will only be expected to host two (or more!) clinics each year for 15-25 participants and then turn in the reporting documents.

You can register online at www.dnr.sc.gov/aquaticed/instructor. Please contact Lorianne Riggin at (803) 737-8483 or email her at [email protected] about attending the next upcoming Certified DNR Fishing Instructor Training to be held September 6 in West Columbia.
