GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—On Monday, dozens of people came out to Crowfield Golf Club to take a swing for Steve Skipton Sr., a former Goose Creek city firefighter.
On May 28th, Skipton was diagnosed with lung cancer which ultimately spread to his pelvis and kidneys. Three months after the devastating news, the father of four lost his battle with the disease on August 23rd. He was only 41-years-old.
His longtime friend of twenty years and fellow firefighter, Captain Warren Adair, helped organize Monday’s golfing event. Proceeds generated will go to the Steve Skipton Sr. support fund.
According to Adair, Skipton always put his family and friends first; therefore, it was only fitting that he and fellow firefighters do their part to help care for Skipton’s family.
During the event, organizers gave away over $10,000 in donated door prizes. Along with a game of golf, the event included an auction, lunch, a buffet dinner, and pre-event grab bag.
Organizers say they should know by Tuesday just how much money the event generated.
Skipton was an EMT in Camden City for 15 years as well as a first responder at 9/11 before moving to South Carolina to work for the Goose Creek Fire Department. He was also co-owner of the popular website, SConFire.com.
According to friends, he was a man who made friends easily and left a lasting impression on the many people he encountered throughout his life. He is missed by many.
