Via Press Release:

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.– Duane Lewis, Republican candidate for Berkeley County Sheriff, picked up the backing of former Attorney General Charlie Condon, State Senator Larry Grooms, County Councilman Josh Whitley, and County Schoolboard Member Mac McQuillin yesterday.

The four men hosted an event for Lewis on Daniel Island.

Senator Grooms said:

“I’m proudly supporting Duane Lewis for Sheriff. His proven executive command experience, dedication to safeguarding taxpayer dollars, and ability to build relationships and bring people together is exactly what Berkeley County needs.”

In a written statement, Whitley and McQuillin said:

“We join the nine sheriff candidates who have endorsed Duane Lewis in the runoff, and we enthusiastically support Duane Lewis for Sheriff. We believe his experience, demeanor, and dedication to this County make him the most qualified candidate.”

Duane currently administers a budget of several million dollars and is the only candidate with experience to focus with laser precision on the Sheriff’s budget to ensure that limited resources of a department with many obligations immediately puts more deputies on the road.

Additional, Berkeley County Councilman Ken Gunn, Berkeley County Councilman Dennis Fish, Berkeley County Treasurer Carolyn Umphlett, Berkeley County Register of Deeds Cindy Forte, Berkeley County Auditor Janet Brown-Jurosko, Berkeley County Clerk of Court Mary Brown, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, and Berkeley County School Board Member Sally Wofford added their names to the ever-growing list of Lewis supporters.

“I am truly humbled by the amount of support this campaign has received since we first began our quest to offer the people of Berkeley a fresh start,” stated Lewis. “This demonstrates, along with the endorsement of 9 former candidates and the support from thousands of Berkeley County residents, that I have the unique ability to bring people together and to build relationships with every community in our county. I am looking forward to a successful May 5th.”

Lewis, the Deputy Chief of Law Enforcement for the South Carolina Public Service Authority/Santee Cooper Law Enforcement Division, is a graduate of Western States University, the FBI Command College, and the FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar) program. Lewis resides in the Moncks Corner area with his wife, Janet.
