BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On Friday afternoon, Berkeley Electric Cooperative sent crews to assist Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative in Pickens with over 4,000 outages caused by Winter Storm Jonas.
According to a spokesperson for BEC, the co-op sent two line crews, three service crews, a right-of-way crews and mechanic for a total of nineteen employees and ten vehicles.
Crews will assist Blue Ridge through the weekend and possibly move into North Carolina and Virginia to assist other electric cooperatives affected by the storm.
“One of the guiding principles among electric cooperatives is ‘Cooperation among Cooperatives’ because cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together,” stated BEC spokesperson Micah Ponce.
Around this time last year, Berkeley Electric crews visited Blue Ridge Electric twice to assist them with outages caused by winter storms.
Berkeley Electric Cooperative is the largest electric cooperative in the state serving over 90,000 member-accounts in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
