BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–What was supposed to be a fun day of fishing on Lake Moultrie turned into anything but for a father and his young son.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad was dispatched to the area of Blacks Camp in Cross for a report of a sinking boat.

While out on the lake with his young son, the father’s small bass boat began taking on water. That’s when he called 9-1-1 for help from his cell phone.

The rescue squad quickly responded and were assisted by DNR and Cross Rural Fire Department.

Thirty minutes into the search, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad located the sinking boat.

By this time, the inside of the father and son’s boat was about two to three feet deep in water.

Squad members picked up the father and son and safely carried them to Blacks Camp.

EMS was on hand to make sure the father and son were okay.
