BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – The group of anonymous Cane Bay neighbors who brought the Halloween villains to life in October were at it again, this time with a great cause in mind. It was a Christmas photoshoot for all who-manity!

The Whoville Grinch showed up with a few friends, Krampus, Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws, Frosty the Snowman, and a Naughty Elf to pose for pictures and collect donations to help families who need help buying gifts this Christmas. The Cane Bay photo fundraiser was set up by the neighbors behind the masks and Bre Harris of MBH Photography

“For me, this is off the charts! I love doing this stuff. I’ve always volunteered, but this is in a close to home capacity,” organizer Bre Harris said.

Harris and a team of volunteers set up the backdrop at the Cane Bay Meridian Amenity Center, organized a check in area, and set up GoFundMe and Venmo accounts to collect the donations. In exchange, people got to take pictures with the Christmas villains.

“We heard about it on Facebook. We’ve been watching the videos. I wanted this memory, but I know it’s going to be bad for him with the Grinch,” Y’Nica Beamer said. She had two-year-old Trevon in line with her to take pictures.

People who came out gave a minimum donation of $20 for a fun 2020 Christmas memory. And even though we all know the Grinch had a change of heart and saved Christmas, some kids were apparently still convinced he’s a “mean one.”

“In the beginning of December my heart is small, but as the month goes on, it will get bigger and bigger toward the end of the month,” Mr. Grinch said.

Mr. Grinch wants everyone to know, don’t be scared, he and the other villains are actually nice, which is why they wanted to come out again after making their Halloween character debut.

Photographer Bre Harris says she was happy to donate her times and talents for the cause.

“We had huge success at Halloween. People kept telling us you should get money for a fundraiser,” Mr. Grinch said.

“The community loves it. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the kids with a fundraiser and help families who have had trouble this year with Covid and other reasons. We enjoy doing it,” Krampus said.

Thirty-six families showed up to take pictures with the Christmas villains.

“I saw them when they were Halloween villains,” Cane Bay resident Denise Miller said. “I am in love with the Grinch. I think he is cute! It’s just wonderful to be able to have this in our neighborhood.”

Cane Bay residents volunteered to work the sign in table and collect the donations, saying it was a great way to give back.

After all donations are collected, the characters plan to go out and buy presents, then deliver gifts to families in need from Cane Bay. People who are in need can reach out to “Whoville G Cane Bay” on Facebook, where they will be vetted and selected in advance and shopped for based on needs.

“It depends on how much money we get, how many families we can help. The more we get the more we can help,” Harris said.  “It’s the holidays. It’s the time of year when people feel more inclined to give, this year especially with Covid and how many people have been impacted financially and personally. This brings the little added joy they might not have had this year.”

During the first of the two fundraising sessions, the volunteers raised more than $1,000 and had 36 families donate and take pictures. The GoFundMe account continues to grow.

If you missed this Saturday’s event, the Christmas villains will be back again Sunday, December 13th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Meridian Amenity Center on Airy Drive, Summerville, SC in Cane Bay. A minimum donation of $20 will be taken at the door to help families in need.
