Greed Unmasked: Berkeley County Woman Faces $34K Food Stamp Fraud

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — A Berkeley County woman has been charged with raking in more than $34,000 in food stamp benefits she allegedly wasn’t entitled to, according to state officials.

Tabatha Brook Wyndham, 33, is facing one felony count of food stamp fraud exceeding $10,000, the South Carolina Department of Social Services announced Tuesday.

Investigators say Wyndham pocketed $34,491 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits between August 2018 and July 2022 by lying on eight annual certification forms. According to an affidavit, she intentionally left out crucial income details — including her own job at Coastal Pediatric Associates PA.

Authorities also said Wyndham failed to report her husband’s employment with both G4S Secure Solutions and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company during the same period.

Wyndham was booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner. The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services encourages the public to report suspected fraud through its Office of Inspector General. Reports can be submitted at dss.sc.gov/about/fraud or by calling 1-800-694-8518.
